Northern Royals - Belfry Eight Day Tour

This tour incorporates the two great northern Open Championship courses of Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale. It also features The Brabazon Course at The Belfry, venue for many Ryder Cup matches, as well as other excellent courses. Non-Golfers should refer to the 'Places to See' section.

Day 1

Arrive in Manchester and after collecting your hire vehicle make the trip south to
The Newhall Country House Hotel, near to The Belfry, where you will be staying for the next three nights. Breakfast is included throughout your stay on this tour.

Day 2

Today you will make the short journey to The Forest of Arden where you will play the Championship course, which has been used for the English Open Championship.
This is a well-manicured and picturesque inland course of high quality.

Day 3

Today, after breakfast you will make the very short journey to the Belfry where you will play the PGA National course. Many rate this course as equal to the Brabazon Ryder Cup course. The course is always in excellent condition and a good test of golf.

Day 4

This is one of the highlights of your trip when you will play the Brabazon course at The Belfry, venue for the Ryder Cup in 1985, 1989 and 1993. The course will host the competition again in 2001. You will tread the fairways where so many famous battles have taken place between the world's great players of Europe and America.
After your round you will drive north and transfer to your hotel The Preston Marriott for the next four nights.

Day 5

Today you will play the links course at Formby, only a short drive away. This is one of the finest links courses in England and a qualifier for the British Open. The tough links of high quality will test your game to its limits and you are sure to have a memorable day here.

Day 6

This is one of the special days of your holiday when you will play the famous links at Royal Birkdale, scene of Mark O'Meara's recent Open Championship victory in 1998. This is a magnificent links played through valleys surrounded by high dunes. Royal Birkdale is one of the best links courses in the world and opportunities to play here should not be missed.

Day 7

Today you will play Royal Lytham, one of the most famous of British Open Championship courses. It is here that Gary Player played his 'Off the clubhouse wall shot' before taking the winners medal. Other winners here have been Johnny Miller and the multi-talented player Seve Ballesteros. You will see the plaque on the 17th where Bobby Jones played his famous long iron shot from the bunker to the green. This is a course well respected by the world's great golfers and a day you will not forget. You will also have lunch in the clubhouse either prior to or after your round.

Day 8

Time to return home or maybe extend your trip with one of our other packages.
