The
Old Head Golf Links is one of the most remarkable developments ever
conceived in the history of golf - an Atlantic promontory that will
never be rivalled in terms of drama and beauty. The course rises
hundreds of feet high above dramatic cliffs, surrounded by the ocean on
all sides and commanding the most spectacular views from virtually every
part.
The Old Head is ideally located on the South Coast of Ireland, a 30
minute drive from Cork International Airport, and within striking
distance of the renowned golf courses of South West Ireland. The course
was designed by a combination of Ireland's greatest golfing heroes and
recognised international contemporary design experts, led by Joe Carr,
Ron Kirby & Paddy Merrigan.
The area available has allowed composition of a 6,650 yard, par 72 golf
course configured as 2 returning loops incorporating 9 holes which play
alongside the cliff tops. It provides an exhilarating test of golf and
concentration for players of all standards.
According to Joe Carr, one of the designers and 3 times British Amateur
Champion: "The Old Head of Kinsale, as a golf links, will in my
estimation rate with the great golf courses in the world. Its location,
its scenic reality and spectacular terrain remind me of Cypress Point
and Pebble Beach, two of America's most famous courses. To be associated
with the design of this project is to me the thrill of a lifetime. I see
The Old Head as a golfers paradise and it has the potential of being the
eight wonder of the world, in golfing terms. |
